Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders, affecting approximately 11% of children, 8% of adolescents, and 4-5% of adults in the United States.
What Is ADHD?
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interfere with daily functioning and development. ADHD is not a character flaw or a result of poor parenting — it is a brain-based condition with strong genetic components, showing a heritability rate of approximately 76%.
ADHD can look different depending on age. Children may struggle with staying seated and following instructions, while adults may experience difficulty with organization, time management, and completing tasks. Many people are not diagnosed until adolescence or adulthood.

Our Approach to Treatment
Treatment for ADHD is most effective when personalized to the individual. At our practice, we provide thorough psychiatric evaluations followed by evidence-based medication management. Treatment options may include stimulant medications (such as methylphenidate and amphetamine-based medications), which have been shown to reduce symptoms in 70-80% of patients, as well as non-stimulant alternatives like atomoxetine, guanfacine, and viloxazine for patients who may not respond to or tolerate stimulants.
We work closely with each patient and family to find the right medication, dosage, and ongoing management plan. Regular follow-up appointments allow us to monitor progress, adjust treatment, and address any side effects or concerns.
